Ashley Stebbins, Deputy Chief Public Defender

Ashley Stebbins has been a member of the Cuyahoga County Public Defender Office since 2009. She began as a law clerk during her second year at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and returned as an attorney after graduation. Ashley spent 7 years in the Juvenile Division of the Office litigating juvenile delinquency cases and advocating for parental rights. During this time, Ashley tried numerous trials including bindovers and SYO litigation. In 2017, Ashley moved to the Felony Division of the Office where she handled a wide range of cases, represented numerous clients at trial, and obtained a life verdict in a case where the State was seeking the death penalty. In 2021, Ashley became the Deputy Chief Public Defender. In this role, Ashley has, among other things, helped secure a grant to expand early representation of parents in need of assistance and thereby ensure families remain intact.

Prior to her career in public service, Ashley obtained her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland. During her undergraduate time, Ashley worked as a research student in a variety of research labs and contributed to a published paper with her work at Carnegie Mellon University in 2007.
